The well-known TV sports broadcaster has passed away.
TMZ reports that sports broadcasting icon Dick Enberg died on Thursday, Dec. 21, 2017. According to San Diego Union-Tribune reporter Bryce Miller, Enberg’s wife revealed that he’d passed in his home in California’s La Jolla area after he had what she believes was a heart attack. Enberg was reportedly preparing to leave to catch a flight at the time.
Enberg was 82 years old.
Having worked for both NBC and CBS, Enberg gained recognition for becoming the play-by-play voice for NFL and MLB games. Throughout his career, he’d call a total of eight Super Bowl games and 28 Wimbledon tournaments. Most recently, he’d called games for the San Diego Padres for seven years before his retirement in 2016 (via USA Today).
Our thoughts are with Enberg’s loved ones during this difficult time.
As we wait for more details about his passing, let’s take the time to remember all the stars we’ve lost in 2017.
